We’ll be on the News tomorrow!

We just found out from our news anchor that we’ll be on the morning news tomorrow – channel 15 ABC in Phoenix – between 6 and 7 am – PST.  Exciting!  We’re going to go over to my great-uncle Stew’s house to watch, as we don’t have television.  Early rise… but it will be worth it!  we’ll post the segment video on here too as soon as we get it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about living small, and how I’ve noticed my own worries about it hinging around [western] societal norms.  Are we crazy to live in such a small space?  Most people I tell say something like “oh we’d kill each other in ten minutes if I had to live in 200 sf with my husband.”  Oh.  Well hopefully that doesn’t happen!  Sometimes it’s feels like a step backward, moving into a smaller home, without all my furniture, less space to organize… less space to fill.  But today I remembered this quote that I love:

“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”

– Krishnamurti

Not to say that anyone living in a home larger than our Tiny House is sick… but there is something wrong with a world that has filled the ocean with plastic.  I can already see how smaller living is going to curb my consumerism.

hope everyone is well,

Carrie

Your perspective is changing, adapting. I like your quotes and am also befuddled by a society that damages and destroys their home. I am reminded of a TV commercial back in the seventies, when we had an extreme littering problem (imagine!) a Native American Indian surveying the white man’s disrespect for the land with a tear in his eye. It was very powerful. We are headed to a better place, but it will probably take another generation or two.

    • Hmmm… yeah, that would be powerful. we really made a mess of this continent, didn’t we? But… we’re all at fault. So then it’s about solutions. And our solution is to use less materials to put a roof over our heads, and use less dwindling resources to heat and cool ourselves! I love it! I’m glad you think we’re headed to a better place. I do get inspired by people in my generation and the younger ones.

  6. ¡Magnífico! Your tiny home looks so lovely, it’s evident you’ve invested lots of love in it. Can you tell me if there’s a way to see that TV episode online?
